Women's Cross Country heads to Islander Splash
AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas women's cross country squad will take part in its fourth meet of the 2005 slate Friday when the Longhorns travel to Corpus Christi for the Islander Splash. The five-kilometer meet is set for 6 p.m. Central at West Guth Park. The Longhorns look to improve upon an 18th-place showing last weekend at the Iona Meet of Champions in New Rochelle, N.Y. Junior Landra Stewardson (Detroit, Texas/Detroit) led the Horns with a time of 23 minutes, 8 seconds, good for 41st place. Junior Lige Stewardson (Detroit, Texas/Detroit) was the second Longhorn to cross the finish line, placing 95th in 23:57. "This meet figures to be a very competitive situation, given the field of solid teams," noted UT assistant women's track and field coach Len Klepack. "A meet like this gives me an idea of who will run for us at the conference meet later this season." The 12-team field features schools like Rice, Texas-San Antonio and the host, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
