Kincy earns ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second-team honors
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas All-America senior distance specialist Temeka Kincy was named second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America women’s track and field/cross country by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The three-time Academic All-Big 12 first team standout graduated in May with a degree in biology/pre-med and a 3.66 grade point average. She will attend Indiana University Medical School on a full scholarship this fall. The three-time All-America selection wrapped up her UT career at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Kincy placed fifth in her heat of the 800 semifinals (2:05.61) and recorded a ninth-place finish, missing the finals by one spot. Previously, Kincy earned three All-America honors at the 2007 NCAA outdoor meet with a seventh-place finish in the 800 meter run posting a personal-best 2:02.57; and at the 2007 outdoor and 2008 indoor NCAA meets as part of UT’s 4x400 relay squad. She has been a member of two Longhorns NCAA Championship teams (the 2005 outdoor and 2006 indoor teams). Additionally, Kincy is an eight-time All-Big 12 Conference selection in the 800 and 100 meter runs and the distance relays. Academically, Temeka was honored as an Academic All-Big 12 First Team standout and an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar-Athlete Award recipient her sophomore, junior and senior seasons and was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in seven of eight possible semesters. This April, Kincy was awarded the UT Women’s Athletics’ highest departmental honor -- the V.F. “Doc” Neuhaus Endowed Presidential Award -- for outstanding achievement in athletics, academics and community service. To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
