Women's Track and Field places nine on Academic All-Big 12 Team
· DALLAS -- The University of Texas women's track and field team placed nine student-athletes on the 2007 Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field Team, announced Tuesday, May 8 by the league office. Junior NCAA regional qualifier Temeka Kincy (Indianapolis, Ind.), seniors Landra and Lige Stewardson (Detroit, Texas), and sophomores Katara Rosby (Baton Rouge, La.) and Larkin Geyer (Austin, Texas) were among the group of 131 first-team recipients to finish the semester with a grade point average of 3.2 or better. NCAA qualifiers junior Ashley Laughlin (Marble Falls, Texas), and sophomores Kira Robinson (Denver, Colo.) and Angel Williams (Clarendon, Texas) joined junior Mariya Townswick (Briarcliff, Texas) on the 30-member second team. Student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher either cumulative or during the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests to be eligible for a nomination to the team. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Seniors who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. Texas begins competition at the 2007 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 11 at Ed Weir Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.
