Three Horns earn AVCA All-Region honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The second-ranked Texas Volleyball team placed three players on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Central Region team, earning three first-team nods for the second consecutive season. Texas (26-1) landed senior setter/opposite hitter Ashley Engle, senior outside hitter Destinee Hooker and junior outside/opposite hitter Juliann Faucette on the first-team. Engle, a Yorba Linda, Calif., native, nabs her fourth all-region honor and her third first team award (2006, 2008-09). The senior has helped lead the Texas offense to the nation's second-best hitting percentage (.339) in 2009, while hitting .340 and adding 8.96 assists, 1.86 kills and 1.95 digs-per set. Hooker, a San Antonio, Texas, native, added her fourth career first-team honor after highlighting Texas' offense in 2009. Hooker ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 in kills (4.88) and points (5.90) per-set and ranks second in the league with a .357 hitting percentage. Faucette, a San Diego, Calif., native, earned her third all-region honor and second first-team accolade (2007). The junior ranks second on the Texas team with 3.20 kills, while adding 1.62 digs per-set and hitting .281. The Longhorns return to action Friday, Dec.11 when they take on Texas A&M in the NCAA Omaha Regional at Qwest Center Omaha. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m. Central. The winners of the two semifinal matches will meet Saturday at 8 p.m. Central to determine which team advances to the NCAA Championship.
