Elliott, Faucette and Adams earn AVCA All-Region honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The sixth-ranked Texas Volleyball team has landed senior Juliann Faucette and junior Rachael Adams on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Central Region First Team and head coach Jerritt Elliott has been named the AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year. Elliott led his team to a 25-5 overall record and its fifth consecutive NCAA regional appearance this year. The Longhorns ended the regular season ranked sixth in the country, which was good enough for the ninth overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. With wins over UTSA and UCLA in the first two rounds, Texas extended its winning streak to 17 matches and has now had four straight seasons with at least 25 wins. He won the AVCA Division I Pacific Region Coach of the Year for the first time in 2000 while at the University of Southern California. This is his third Division I Central Region Coach of the Year honor since joining Texas (2004, 2007). Faucette, a San Diego, Calif., native, earned her fourth all-region honor and third first-team accolade (2007, 2009). The senior leads the Texas club with 3.89 kills per-set and ranks second on the team with 2.55 digs per-set, while hitting at a .262 clip. Adams, a Cincinnati, Ohio, native, earned her first all-region award after earning All-Big 12 First Team lauds this season. She currently leads the NCAA with her .447 hitting percentage, leads the Texas team with 1.20 blocks per-set and is averaging 2.89 kills per-set. The Longhorns return to action Friday, Dec.10 when they take on eighth-seeded Illinois in the NCAA Austin Regional at Gregory Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Central. The winners of the two semifinal matches will meet Saturday at 8 p.m. Central to determine which team advances to the NCAA Championship.
