Hey Y'all, What an exciting week we had in Texas Volleyball! Going into the week, we were extremely excited. Tuesday afternoon we chartered a plane up to Columbia to take on Missouri on Wednesday night. We arrived around 4 p.m., we stepped off the plane and onto the bus for a short drive to the hotel. From there, we had a pre-practice snack of cereal and fruit before we hit the court for a two and a half hour work out. After practice, Coach Elliott surprised the team with a Thanksgiving meal at the. It was a special moment for all of us! Each person stood up and said what they were thankful for, as we ate stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberries, chicken (in place of turkey), gravy, sweet potatoes and green bean casserole. Waking up the following morning (Wednesday) it was back to business. We woke up around 9 a.m. for breakfast and then a quick serve-and-pass. That night, we faced a very good Missouri team and even though we lost the first set, it showed a lot about our team to bounce back and win the next three. After the match, we jumped back on a plane and landed back here in Austin around 11:15 p.m. Thursday morning I woke up and turned on the TV and totally forgot it was Thanksgiving until I saw the Thanksgiving Day Parade, and Ashley (Engle) came out of her room shouting "Happy Thanksgiving"! From 10-11:30 we had a short practice before we spent the rest of the day with our family and cheering on our football team against the Aggies. On Saturday night we achieved our first team goal of the season by winning back-to-back Big 12 Championships with our victory over Colorado. It was an emotional night as it was our seniors, Lauren Paolini and Kiley Hall's, last time to run out of the elevator on our home court. Our two seniors are amazing people, who are extremely gifted and will be missed by everyone.
Sunday night, we all gathered at Coach Elliott's house to watch the selection show and we were all thrilled to earn our second straight No. 1 seed. On Friday night we take on Lamar here at home at 6:30pm in the first round of NCAA play. Come out and be loud as we start our journey. I can't wait to see y'all out at Gregory. Hook `Em, Heather |
