Holler back: December 1

Hey, everyone! This is Sarah Holloway, a freshman defensive specialist and libero on the Texas Volleyball team. This year, I've inherited the weekly diary from both Whitney Garvens (who wrote it for the volleyball team in 2003) and from my brother Tillman (who wrote a diary for the UT football team last year). I'll keep you up-to-date on what's happening with the team, both on the court and off. I'll fill you in on our matches and our travels as we go after a Big 12 title in 2004! Check back each week to see what we've been up to! Hook 'em!

Now that our stomachs are full from all the great food we had during Thanksgiving weekend, it is time to get back into the gym and finish our season. Time is running low with only three more weeks of play left until the national championship game. I spent my Thanksgiving with the Howdens. They are such a wonderful family and they are as close to home as I get in Austin. My parents came down the day after Thanksgiving to watch our last home game against Texas Tech. I know that a lot of the team was able to spend Thanksgiving with family, which is so nice, and it also helped reground us for the next couple weeks of tough competition. My boyfriend, the Howdens and I all went to the women's basketball game on Thursday and saw their awesome win against the number-one ranked Tennessee. Talk about inspiring! We also attended the awesome football game on Friday as Texas beat A&M. It was a great weekend for the Longhorns!

With the end of the Thanksgiving weekend was also the end of our regular season play. I was a bit sad to watch Beth and Mira play their last regular-season home game on Saturday. They have been amazing teammates and will be greatly missed next year. Beth's parents are always in town and able to watch the home games, but I know that it was really special for Mira to have her parents there. It was also nice to have a great win over Tech. We knew that it was a big win for us because it would put us in great position to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

On Sunday after doing a little homework, the whole team gathered at the Howden's home with close family and friends to watch the seeding announcement for the NCAA Tournament. We also had a farewell party for Mike (Fuentes, team manager) who is heading to Iraq shortly. We also were informed of all the Big 12 honors our team earned. We have such great talent on our team. We had more honors than any other team in the Big 12!

Once the seeds were announced we were all really excited to be placed at sixth, but at the same time knew that "to what much is given, much is expected." It is an exciting time for us...and I hope that everyone will be there Friday night to cheer us on against Texas State.

As always, Hook 'Em and God bless.
-Holler
