Volleyball earns a No. 1 seed in NCAA Tournament

AUSTIN, Texas -- The third-ranked Texas Volleyball team will make its 24th NCAA Tournament appearance this coming weekend when it hosts the first and second rounds of the 2007 NCAA Tournament at Gregory Gym for the fourth consecutive season.

Texas (24-3, 19-1 Big 12) earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament and the No. 1 seed in the Gainesville Regional. The Horns will welcome 14th-ranked New Mexico State, LSU and UT's first-round opponent, Texas State to Gregory Gym on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec.1.

New Mexico State will face LSU on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and the Longhorns will take on Texas State at 6:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first match. The winners of the two matches will meet on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets to the NCAA Tournament first and second rounds can be purchased at any Texas Box Office location beginning Monday, Nov. 26 at 9 a.m. (Central). All-session ticket packages are $6 (students/seniors general admission), $12 (adult general admission) and $18 (reserved seating). Individual session tickets will go on sale beginning Friday.

The winner of the Austin Sub-Regional will advance to the Gainesville Regional, where it will face the winner of the Gainesville, Fla. (University of Florida) Sub-Regional in the NCAA "Sweet 16." Regional matches will be played Dec. 7-8.

Texas earned one of 33 at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament, and was one of six teams from the Big 12 Conference to earn an invite. UT, which tied for the league title with Nebraska is joined by No. 2 national seed Nebraska, No. 8 seed Kansas State, Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa State in the 64-team draw.

The Longhorns have won all 13 of their matches on their home floor this season and they have won 52 of their last 56 matches at Gregory dating back to 2003.

Texas State (21-11, 10-6 Southland) earned an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the Southland Conference championship. New Mexico State (24-4, 14-2 WAC) also gained an at-large bid to the tournament after finishing in second place in the Western Athletic Conference. LSU (24-7, 15-5 SEC) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after finishing atop the Southeastern Conference's western division.

In 2006, Texas earned its third straight bid to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to Regional finals for the first time since 1998.

Texas has been selected to host first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament 18 times and UT is 36-9 all-time in NCAA matches played in Austin. Texas is undefeated in first-round contests at 23-0.

Tickets will only be available at will call for this event.  Tickets can be picked up at Bellmont Hall beginning Tuesday, November 27.  They will be at Bellmont until one hour prior to the event start time.  At that time, they will be available at will call at Gregory Gymnasium.
