The Longhorns won their seventh straight match since falling to Oklahoma (10/29), knocking off Kansas, 3-0 on Saturday after defeating Nebraska 3-1 on Wednesday ... sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Doris paced the defense with 13 total blocks, and 1.86 blocks per-set en route to earning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors ... freshman setter Michelle Kocher earned her fourth Rookie of the Week award after registering 10.71 assists per-set for the week.
Texas is hitting a conference-best .346 in league play, holding a large .071 edge on second-place Nebraska which is hitting .275 in the Big 12 ... senior All-America middle blocker Lauren Paolini is leading the way for UT in league play, hitting a Big 12-best .514, registering 160 kills on 280 swings, while committing just 16 attack errors in 18 matches ... Paolini has recorded seven error-free matches so far in Big 12 action ... junior All-America outside hitter Destinee Hooker ranks seventh in the league with a .325 attack mark, while leading the Big 12 with 5.27 points and 4.39 kills per-set ... junior All-America opposite hitter Ashley Engle ranks fourth in the league play with a .339 attack mark, while freshman setter Michelle Kocher ranks second with 11.62 assists per-set.
In the most recent release of the NCAA Statistics (Nov. 24), the Longhorns rank second on the national charts in hitting with their .338 attack mark ... After losing to Oklahoma, 3-2 on Oct. 29, Texas has responded by winning seven straight matches, posting five sweeps and a pair of victories over No. 3 Nebraska and No. 14 Kansas State ... the refocused Longhorns swept past Texas A&M (11/1), Texas Tech (11/12) and Kansas (11/22) at home and posted road sweeps of Baylor (11/5) and Iowa State (11/8) ... the Horns then ousted K-State (11/15), 3-2 and followed their five-set win in Manhattan with a 3-1 win over NU ... in the seven victories, UT has out-hit its opponents .327-to-.165 and out-blocked them 72.0-to-40.5.
The 2008 Longhorns have been putting up robust team hitting numbers en route to leading the league with a .338 attack mark on the year and a .346 hitting clip in Big 12 play ...
