Doris and Kocher earn Big 12 weekly honors

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Doris and freshman setter Michelle Kocher have been named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after leading the third-ranked Longhorns to a pair of conference wins last week. The honor is the fourth of the season for Kocher, while Doris picks up the first weekly award of her career.

Doris anchored the Texas defense in its wins over No. 3 Nebraska and Kansas last week, registering 13 total blocks, four solo blocks and 1.86 blocks per-set for the week and adding 3.07 points per-set.

Against No. 3 Nebraska, Doris headlined the Horns' with a career-best seven total blocks. She posted one solo block, six block assists, six kills and hit .600 in UT's 3-1 win over the Huskers. In the Horns' win over Kansas, Doris recorded a career-best three solo blocks, notched six total blocks and added seven kills on .500 hitting.

Kocher paced the Longhorns' offense to a .355 attack mark in its Big 12 victories, averaging 10.71 assists, 1.29 digs and 0.71 blocks per-set in the two wins.

The Wheaton, Ill., native tallied 40 assists, six digs, three blocks and two kills in Texas' win over Nebraska, leading the Horns to a .333 attack mark. Against Kansas, Kocher registered 35 assists, four kills, three digs and two blocks, while pacing the Horns to a .382 hitting percentage.

Texas returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 26 when it travels to Columbia to take on Missouri. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. Central.
