Hooker earns fifth Big 12 Volleyball honor of the year

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas senior All-America outside hitter Destinee Hooker was named Big 12 Player of the Week after leading the second-ranked Longhorns to sweeps of Kansas State and No. 24 Baylor last week. Hooker's award was her fifth of the season and the 12th player of the week honor of her career. The San Antonio, Texas, native connected for 7.00 points and 4.83 kills per-set for the week, while hitting at a .338 clip. She added 2.50 digs, 1.83 blocks and 0.83 service aces per-set in the Horns' wins, helping UT clinch at least a share of the Big 12 title. In Texas' sweep of Kansas State, Hooker connected for 15 kills on 30 error-free swings and posted a .500 attack mark. She equaled a career-high with four block assists and eight total blocks and added three service aces and seven digs to her stat line. Hooker headlined the UT attack in its sweep of No. 24 Baylor, hammering out 14 kills and totaling two service aces, two assists, eight digs and three total blocks. Hooker and her Texas teammates return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 25 when they travel to Oklahoma. A victory over the Sooners will clinch the Longhorns their first outright Big 12 title since 1997. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Central.
