Haley Eckerman named Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week
Nov. 20, 2012
Texas Volleyball sophomore outside hitter Haley Eckerman has been named Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. This is Eckerman's first Sports Imports/AVCA weekly honor as she becomes the seventh University of Texas student-athlete to earn the honor. Juliann Faucette was the last Longhorn to earn the honor (Nov. 23, 2010). Eckerman (Waterloo, Iowa/East HS) totaled 35 kills and only five errors in 62 attempts for a .484 hitting percentage last week as the Longhorns claimed sweeps over Texas Tech and West Virginia. The sophomore averaged 5.83 kills per set and 6.92 points per set as UT clinched the Big 12 title on Wednesday against the Red Raiders and then extended its home conference win streak in league play to 40 matches on Saturday versus WVU. In the two matches combined, Eckerman also recorded four service aces, 10 digs and four blocks. She currently leads the Big 12 in kills (4.64), service aces (0.45) and points (5.35).
