Volleyball lands five on Academic All-Big 12 Team

AUSTIN, Texas -- The fourth-ranked Texas Volleyball team landed five players on the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the most Longhorns on the squad since 1999. Sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Doris, sophomore outside hitter Juliann Faucette, junior libero Heather Kisner and senior middle blocker Lauren Paolini earned spots on the first-team, while junior opposite hitter Ashley Engle claimed a place on the second-team.
Kisner and Paolini captured their second academic honors of their careers with Kisner earning her second first-team accolade.
Doris has started all 24 of the Longhorns’ matches and leads Texas with a team-best 76 total blocks and 0.90 blocks per-set. The Houston, Texas, native is hitting at a .406 clip, a mark that ranks second on the UT squad.
Engle, a two-time All-Big 12 First Team choice, ranks third on the UT team with 2.93 kills per-set, while hitting at a .316 clip. The 2006 All-American is averaging 2.16 digs, 1.04 assists and 0.75 blocks per-set this season.
Faucette, a first-team All-America selection in 2007 has helped the Texas offense hit a Big 12-best .337 on the year. The 6’2” outside hitter is averaging 2.95 kills, 1.88 digs and 0.58 blocks per-set for the year.
Kisner, an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team selection, is pacing the Texas defense in her first year as a starter, registering 4.09 digs per-set. The Sugar Land, Texas, native ranks second in the Big 12 in digs per-set.
Paolini, a third-team All-American in 2007, ranks atop the Big 12 and fourth in the NCAA with her .465 attack mark. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team choice ranks second on the UT squad with 73 blocks and 0.83 blocks per-set.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Texas returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 19 when it takes on Nebraska in Big 12 Conference action at Gregory Gymnasium. First serve is at 8 p.m. Central on ESPNU.
