Engle earns second straight Big 12 Volleyball weekly honor
Nov. 17, 2008
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas junior All-America opposite hitter Ashley Engle earned a Big 12 weekly honor for the second straight week on Monday, capturing Big 12 Player of the Week accolades. The honor comes a week after the Yorba Linda, Calif., native claimed Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors. Engle's award was the fourth player of the week and fifth weekly honor of her career. Engle headlined No. 4 Texas in last week's sweep of Texas Tech and five-set road win over No. 14 Kansas State. The 6'3" junior averaged 4.50 kills and 4.75 points per-set, while hitting at a .583 clip against the Wildcats. She added 1.67 digs per-set and three total blocks to her all-around effort. In the Horns' victory over Kansas State (Nov. 15), Engle connected for a season-best 24 kills on .488 hitting. She chipped in seven digs, tallied two blocks and committed just four attack errors on 41 swings. In a sweep of Texas Tech (Nov. 12), Engle had three kills, three digs, an assist and a block in the Longhorns' 25-9 first set win. It was the only set the junior All-American played on Wednesday. Engle and her Texas teammates return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 19 when they play host to No. 3 Nebraska. First serve is set for 8 p.m. Central on ESPNU.
