Eckerman earns Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week honors

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas freshman outside hitter Haley Eckerman has been named the Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week after leading the Longhorns to wins over Texas Tech and Kansas State last week. The player of the week award is the first of her career and the rookie honor is her third of 2011.
The national freshman of the year candidate averaged 6.64 points, 5.43 kills and 0.71 aces per-set, while hitting at a .397 clip. She connected for a career-best 23 kills in Texas' win at Texas Tech and recorded the most kills by any Big 12 player in a three-set match this season.
At Tech, Eckerman committed just one error on 37 swings, hit a career-high .595 and added two blocks. In the K-State victory, she connected for 15 kills and 21 points and posted three career-best totals with four service aces, two solo blocks and six digs.
Eckerman and her Texas teammates return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 16 when they play host to Baylor. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Central on Longhorn Network.
