Volleyball signs third-ranked recruit

AUSTIN, Texas -- Consistently recognized for recruiting top national classes, Texas volleyball head coach Jerritt Elliott has again landed one of the nation's top recruits as Ashley Engle, a 6-4 setter/ right side hitter from Anaheim, Calif., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend The University of Texas. She will enroll at UT in the fall of 2006.

Engle, who is ranked as the nation's third-best incoming volleyball recruit by PrepVolleyball.com, attends Esperanza High School and previously played her club ball for Golden West before joining Long Beach VBC this year.

Engle was a member of the 2005 U.S. Youth National Team that finished fourth in the World Championships in Macau, China last summer.

"We are thrilled to sign Ashley Engle to a National Letter of Intent," Elliott said. "She is a world-class athlete who is multi-dimensional on the volleyball court. Not only is Ashley talented on the court, but she encompasses everything we look for in future Longhorns: she is a team player that takes pride in being part of a team.

"Ashley's signing is a signal to our fans that the future is bright as a Texas Longhorn."

Engle is considered the most versatile athlete in the Class of 2006. She is a left-handed hitter with above average power, and also provides a very strong right-side block.
