Hey, everyone! This is Sarah Holloway, a freshman defensive specialist and libero on the Texas Volleyball team. This year, I've inherited the weekly diary from both Whitney Garvens (who wrote it for the volleyball team in 2003) and from my brother Tillman (who wrote a diary for the UT football team last year). I'll keep you up-to-date on what's happening with the team, both on the court and off. I'll fill you in on our matches and our travels as we go after a Big 12 title in 2004! Check back each week to see what we've been up to! Hook 'em!
Well we are all back home after a great break to finish this last leg of our Big 12 schedule. But, first let's go back to our awesome match at Colorado last Wednesday! When we first arrived and got off the plane, it was freezing! It was so weird to see snow on the ground. We drove to the hotel and then we had a quick dinner and then headed to bed. Everyone was really tired from the long flight.
The next morning we woke up for our pass and serve practice. The air was so dry and it was hard to breathe in the gym, even for someone who's used to it like me. After practice we went back to the hotel for some rest. My parents and friends came to see me during the off time and that was really nice to catch up for a bit with them.
As we headed going down to our pre-game meal, about 13 of us crammed into a small elevator and it got stuck! For about five minutes we just sat there panicking. Because there was so many of us in there is got awfully hot, real quickly. Five minutes seemed like an eternity, but when we finally got out it gave us something to laugh about for the rest of the trip.
It was nice to see a group of Texas fans at the match later that night. Al (Jennings) had some of her friends come that went to CU, and Michelle's (Moriarty) parents were there, as well as mine. It was also nice to come away with our 20th victory of the season.
We arrived home around 2:30 in the morning on Thursday and our coaches were nice enough to cancel practice Thursday afternoon so we could rest. On Friday, we decided as a team that we would practice early in the morning so that people could fly home right after class since we had the weekend off. Practice started at 5:30 A.M.!!! ... We had to warm up at 5:15!! That meant we had to wake up at 4:30!! Jenny (Andrew) spent the night in the dorms so she could just roll out of bed and walk to practice. She spent the night with Al and Michelle and they woke up at 3:30 and went to Kirby Lane for breakfast. They are insane!
Anyway, almost everyone got to go home or just relax in Austin last weekend. I personally spent my time in the gym watching my little sister Rachel's regional volleyball tournament. It was time off well-needed, but I know that we are excited to get back in the gym and work towards that white banner (a national championship banner).
Well, I need to get ready for practice. I will see all of y'all at our game on Thursday against A&M. We'll need a big crowd for TV and to help us get that half-point back in the Lone Star Showdown standings!
As always Hook 'Em and God Bless!
-Holler
