Volleyball claims three Academic All-District honors

AUSTIN, Texas -- The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have named Texas senior setter Michelle Moriarty, sophomore defensive specialist Heather Kisner and junior middle blocker Lauren Paolini to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 squad. Moriarty and Kisner garnered first-team accolades, while Paolini was named to the second team.

The award marks the third of Moriarty's career, after earning first-team honors in 2005 and second-team honors in 2006, while Kisner and Paolini capture their first career awards.

Moriarty, an AVCA All-America Third Team selection in 2006, carries a 3.703 GPA in sport management and ranks fourth nationally in assists per-game. Texas' all-time assists leader has registered 14.03 assists per-game and has started 21 matches this season. Moriarty has led Texas to a national-best attack mark of .340 and a No. 7 national ranking in kills per-game (17.97).

Kisner is Texas' most aggressive back row defender and boasts an unblemished 4.00 GPA in business. The Sugar Land, Texas, native has steadied the Longhorns back row this season, helping the Horns to a 19-3 record and a 14-1 mark in Big 12 play. Kisner is averaging 1.89 digs per-game, playing in 20 matches, including nine starts. Her stats are not indicative of the role she fills, as she has helped Texas' defense hold its opponents to a .172 attack mark in 2007.

Paolini, a stalwart in the Texas middle is hitting at a .379 clip, while carrying a 3.268 GPA in biology. The junior has posted a .450 hitting percentage in league play, a mark that ranks atop the conference in Big 12 action. The Ann Arbor, Mich., native leads the Longhorns with a team-high 99 blocks and a 1.38 blocks per-game average and ranks third in the Big 12 in blocking.

The third-ranked Longhorns return to action at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 when they take on Big 12 Conference rival Texas A&M in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown.
