Three Horns claim Volleyball Academic All-District honors

AUSTIN, Texas -- The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have named three Texas Volleyball players to its ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams. Senior libero Heather Kisner earned a place on the first team, marking the third all-district honor of her career. Junior middle blocker Jennifer Doris and sophomore middle blocker Rachael Adams earned places on the second team, with Doris earning her second straight CoSIDA honor.

Kisner, Texas' starting libero boasts a 3.58 GPA in finance. The Sugar Land, Texas, native has steadied the Longhorns back row in 2009, helping the Horns to an 18-1 record and a 13-1 mark in Big 12 play. Kisner averages a team-best 4.11 digs and 1.20 assists per-set on the year. She has helped Texas limit its opponents to a .155 hitting percentage, a mark that ranks second in the conference. The senior is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 pick and a three-time CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District choice.

Adams, a stalwart in the Texas middle carries a 3.48 GPA in communication/advertising . In 2009, she leads the Longhorns in hitting percentage (.469), total blocks (65), block assists (61) and blocks per-set (1.05). The Cincinnati, Ohio, native ranks eighth in the Big 12 in blocking. Adams was a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll with a 4.0 GPA in Spring 2009.

Doris, a viable option at middle blocker and opposite owns a 3.55 GPA in corporate communications. The 6-5 junior has earned 10 starts and played in all 19 matches, ranking second on the team with 1.02 blocks per-set. Doris was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection and CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team pick in 2008.

To be nominated for all-district honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form.

 

 

The second-ranked Longhorns return to action on Saturday, Nov. 7 when they travel to Missouri. First serve is set for 5 p.m. Central.
