Quote the Horns: Nov. 3
Nov. 3, 2009
The second-ranked Texas Volleyball team travels to Ames, Iowa to meet No. 8 Iowa State on Wednesday, Nov. 4. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. Central. Head Coach Jerritt Elliott On whether there will be a letdown after the win against Nebraska: I don’t think this is going to be a letdown. We’ve been doing a mini NCAA tournament that we started off with Colorado and this is our Elite 8 match that we are going to have to play on the road. I think the girls understand what is at stake. They have been working all year long to put themselves in this position and I believe that we will be ready. On Iowa State’s strengths: Well they lead the conference in digs and blocks. They play very hard and they don’t make a lot of errors. On if he is still impressed with his team: At times. I think as a coach you are always a little more critical in regard to the way that your team plays. I was very proud of how hard we fought against Nebraska. It wasn’t one of our best skill matches in terms of our performance, but we fought very hard in front of a great home crowd.
Junior outside hitter Juliann Faucette On Iowa State: I think Iowa State is a great team. They have a lot of key players. Last year they showed up in our place in the Elite 8 and that was huge. There has kind of been a little built up rivalry since last year, so this is definitely a big-time game. We’re going to go in there with a lot of confidence so that we will be ready to play. On why Iowa State is so good: I think that the reason they are so good is because no one really talks about them. They are a scary team and they have a lot of great players. Their libero is really good. She was the defensive player of the year in the Big 12 last year and I think that is a huge factor for their team’s defense. Also, it is hard to play a scrappy team like that, so they are really an important team in the Big 12. On how her Texas team is different from others she has played on: This team is pretty special. We have a lot of talent, but at the same time, we also have a lot of experience with our seniors and a couple of juniors who have been through last year’s final four. Even our freshmen from last year have a lot of experience. It’s a different team than ones that I have been on before because we are such a tight unit. On the team’s feelings right now: This is our biggest game to date this year, so there is definitely a lot of chit-chat and a lot of talk outside the locker room. But, when we are together, we are all focused and we are really excited about this game.
