Volleyball kicks off Texas holiday food drive

AUSTIN, Texas -- The eighth-ranked Texas Volleyball team returns home to Gregory Gym, Wednesday, Nov. 1 to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at 6:30 p.m. At that match the Texas Athletics Department and the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas will work together to gather non-perishable food items for the upcoming holiday season. All fans donating a food item at the gate will receive a free general admission ticket to the match.

All children in attendance will also have the opportunity to meet Austin area firemen and explore the fire truck that will be parked on the plaza in front of Gregory Gym. Parents and children are encouraged to come out early for this fun and educational pre-match activity.

No. 8 Texas (15-5, 10-3 Big 12) is currently riding a three-game winning streak and is in third place in the Big 12 Conference. The Longhorns knocked off Kansas (10-12, 5-5 Big 12), 3-0 on Sept. 16 in Lawrence, Kan. and they are looking for their sixth straight victory over the Jayhawks.

The Longhorns are led by freshman outside hitter Destinee Hooker, who has been named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week each of the past two weeks after averaging 4.94 kills per game and hitting at a .424 clip over the two week span.
