Volleyball moves to No. 5, Faucette earns Big 12 Player of the Week honors
AUSTIN, Texas -- After notching a pair of Big 12 Conference victories last week and The University of Texas Volleyball team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll released Monday. In the two victories, Longhorns' freshman outside hitter Juliann Faucette registered 6.00 kills per-game and she was honored as the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for her efforts.
Texas moves up in the poll for the second consecutive week after moving up to No. 6 last week. Big 12 Conference foe Nebraska tops the poll, while Penn State ranks second, Stanford ranks third and Washington weighs in at No. 4.
Faucette headlined Texas' attack last week in a pair of Big 12 Conference victories over No. 23 Oklahoma and Missouri. The San Diego, Calif., native tallied 6.67 points and 6.00 kills per-game in the two-match week, while hitting at a .391 clip. The Longhorns' leader for the week, she posted a kill/dig double-double against Oklahoma and averaged 3.00 digs and 1.17 blocks per-game for the week.
Faucette was outstanding against Oklahoma on Oct. 17, leading the team in kills, points and digs. The freshman registered 16 kills on .379 hitting in the victory and added a match-high 12 digs.
She added a match-best 20 kills in the Longhorns sweep of Missouri on Oct. 20 hitting at a .400 clip and committing just four attack errors on 40 swings. Faucette added six digs and four total blocks to her performance as UT earned its first win in its last seven tries in Columbia, Mo.
The league honor is the second of Faucette's career and the fifth in the last seven weeks for the Longhorns.
Faucette and the Longhorns return to action at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 when they host top-ranked Nebraska in a Big 12 Conference matchup at Gregory Gymnasium. Only 500 general admission tickets remained as of 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22.
