Tonight's match marks the first contest for the 2011 State Farm Lone Star Showdown ... this marks the eighth year of the Showdown, the all-sports athletic competition between Texas and Texas A&M ... Texas Athletics owns a 4-1-2 mark all-time in the showdown ... in order to win the Showdown, a school must acquire 10.0 points during the year.

Freshman outside hitter Haley Eckerman headlined Texas' attack last week in its two matches five-set loss at No. 25 Oklahoma and its five-set victory at No. 16 Iowa State ... she posted a new career-high kill total in each of her matches, averaging 4.25 points and 4.10 kills per-set for the week ... she tallied 20 kills at OU and 21 kills at ISU ... for her efforts, Eckerman was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 3.

Through Texas' first 13 matches senior middle blocker Rachael Adams is leading the way for the Longhorns ... the All-American ranks third in the Big 12 with her .351 hitting percentage and first in the Big 12 with 1.42 blocks per-set ... she averaged 1.80 blocks per-set at the elite Nike Big Four Classic (Sept. 9-10) and went on to win Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors ... Adams currently ranks 16th in the NCAA in blocking.
The Horns are currently riding a 26-match  home winning streak against Big 12 foes, which dates back to Nov. 1, 2008.

After running a 6-2 offense in its first nine matches of the season, Texas has switched to a 5-1 system in its last four matches ... in the first nine matches, Texas hit .212 as a team and posted a 6-3 record ... since switching to the 5-1 system, UT is hitting .276 as a unit and owns a 3-1 record.

After a slow start to her sophomore campaign, opposite hitter Bailey Webster has come on strong for the Horns ... Webster hit .210 and average 1.74 kills in UT's first eight matches, but has shined in her last five outings, hitting .408 with 2.50 kills per-set.

Since head coach Jerritt Elliott arrived in Austin, the Longhorns have emerged as the dominant volleyball program in the state of Texas ... the Longhorns have posted a 82-8 (.911) record against in-state opponents during the Elliott era, including an 20-0 mark against Texas Tech and a 19-1 mark against Baylor ... before Texas' loss to Texas A&M on Sept. 16, 2010, UT had won 47-straight matches versus in-state foes with the streak dating back to  Oct. 16, 2004.

In 16 years of Big 12 Conference play the Longhorns own a 231-69 (.770) mark in league action ... Texas' all-time Big 12 record ranks second to only Nebraska ... during head coach Jerritt Elliott's 10-year tenure, Texas has posted a 156-46 (.772) record against Big 12 foes ... the Longhorns' 19-1 record in 2007 and 2009 are their best marks since the inception of the league.
