Eckerman earns Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas freshman outside hitter Haley Eckerman has been named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week after leading the Longhorns in their matches at No. 16 Iowa State and No. 25 Oklahoma last week. The award is the first Big 12 weekly honor of her career. The Waterloo, Iowa, native posted a new career-high kill total in each of Texas' two matches, averaging 4.25 points and 4.10 kills per-set for the week. In the Horns' five-set loss at No. 25 Oklahoma, Eckerman hammered out 20 kills and hit .368. In Texas' five-set victory at No. 16 Iowa State, she returned to her home state with a bang, connecting for a career-best 21 kills. She added five digs and one solo block in the win. Eckerman and her Texas teammates return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 when they host Texas A&M. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. Central on FSN.
