2010 Volley for the Cure

Oct. 1, 2010

Breast cancer is a disease that touches everyone. One out of eight women has been diagnosed or will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime -- that means one out of eight mothers, daughters, sisters or wives.

To combat an enemy that spares no one, we all have to be allies, even in the sporting arena. That’s why the Texas Volleyball team hosts its third annual Volley for the Cure match on Wednesday, Oct. 6 against Colorado -- so that through the Longhorns’ efforts on the court, a greater message is told.

UT Athletics is offering a special Volley for the Cure bundle pack in order to educate the largest crowd possible about breast cancer awareness and breast health initiatives. Bundle packs are $4 and include a general admission ticket, FREE small popcorn and a coupon to purchase a pink Horns for Hope T-shirt for only $9.99 at the match.

If interested, please call 512-232-3865 and mention "Volley for the Cure." Bundle packs must be ordered in advance. Pink pom poms and breast health educational packets will be distributed on match night.

Some of the Longhorns shared their thoughts on being part of this effort.

Hannah Allison
My grandmother had breast cancer, so this hits home for me. It’s real. It’s not just about us wearing pink. We’re playing to show everyone that we care, and we care about putting awareness out there. It’s a great platform, and we’re lucky enough to be on it and help the cause.

Jennifer Doris
Volley for the Cure is a great event, and we’re fortunate to participate in this every year to bring awareness about this disease. It’s bigger than us, bigger than our sport.

Rachael Adams
This cause is a lot bigger that just this night, or just this team. Survivors are coming to the match, and it’s special for us to support them and dedicate this night to them.
