Match 13: No. 8/9 TEXAS (8-4, 1-1 Big 12) at No. 16/16 Iowa State (12-2, 3-0 Big 12)
In Texas' 3-2 loss at Oklahoma on Wednesday, freshman outside hitter Haley Eckerman hammered out a career-best 20 kills ... senior middle blocker Rachael Adams added 14 kills, while freshman outside hitter Khat Bell posted her third kill/dig double-double of the year with 11 kills and 12 digs.
The Longhorns began to hit their stride in their 2011 Big 12 opener, sweeping past a one-loss Kansas team and hitting a season-best .384 ... Freshman outside hitter Khat Bell led all Longhorns with 13 kills and added six digs, while senior All-America middle blocker Rachael Adams connected for 10 kills on .467 hitting and freshman outside hitter Haley Eckerman pounded out 10 kills and hit at a .500 clip.
Through Texas' first 12 matches senior middle blocker Rachael Adams is leading the way for the Longhorns ... the All-American ranks fourth in the Big 12 with her .349 hitting percentage and first in the Big 12 with 1.44 blocks per-set ... she averaged 1.80 blocks per-set at the elite Nike Big Four Classic (Sept. 9-10) and went on to win Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors ... Adams currently ranks sixth in the NCAA in blocking.
After running a 6-2 offense in its first nine matches of the season, Texas has switched to a five 5-1 system in its last three matches ... in the first nine matches, Texas hit .212 as a team and posted a 6-3 record ... since switching to the 5-1 system, UT is hitting .276 as a unit and owns a 2-1 record.
In his 13 seasons as a collegiate head coach, Jerritt Elliott has recorded 299 victories and posted a 299-85 record ... Elliott has recorded 249 of his victories during his 11 seasons at Texas ... he is the second-winningest UT coach, only trailing Mick Haley who won 522 matches in 17 seasons at Texas (1980-96).
