Kickin' it with Kisner: Sept. 28
Sept. 29, 2008 Hey Y'all, We just got home from a successful week in Big 12 play. On Wednesday, we took on Iowa State here at home. The match was our first Big 12 game at Gregory Gym and we played a very good team. Ultimately, the match showed that we are able to hold our composure in the long run, especially in games two and three. In each match we are building our team chemistry/trust, and the game against Iowa State is one more step toward that goal. Additionally, it helped us point out our weaknesses and allowed us to improve upon them in practice. Our second match of week was at the University of Kansas up in Lawrence. After practice on Friday, we packed up our gear and boarded the bus for the Austin airport. After a layover in Dallas, and a 40-minute drive from Kansas City, we arrived at our hotel Friday night just in time for dinner and a good night's rest. The next day, we woke up for breakfast and a mid-morning practice before the game later that night. At 7 p.m., we stepped out on the court against Kansas. The match went to four sets, and it was truly a battle. Our hitters did a great job of putting the ball away, and we were able to make adjustments throughout the game. We proved to ourselves that we were able to play/execute in the crunch and finish the match, especially in set four. After the game, we went out to eat at a pizza place called Old Chicago. The majority of us had never been there before and it was fun trying to decide what to order. We had the choice of pasta or pizza, but the pizza came in thin crust, regular, deep dish, calzone and probably others I can't recall. Then you could choose one pre-made, or create your own with about fifty different choices of toppings. In the end, we all decided to get what sounded best and share, kind of like a buffet. This week we travel to Oklahoma where we will take on our long-time rival on Wednesday. We will be back home against Kansas State on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Can't wait to see y'all there!
