Volleyball jumps four spots to No. 18 in national poll

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Volleyball climbed four spots in the USA Today/CSTV Coaches Top 25 Poll (presented by the American Volleyball Coaches Association) on Monday, moving up to No. 18 this week.

After a 2-0 week that saw the Horns defeat Iowa State and No. 21 Kansas, both by 3-0 scores, Texas jumped up from its 22nd-ranking in the last poll. With the pair of victories, UT is now 11-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Big 12 Conference, sharing the top spot in the standings with No. 7 Nebraska. Texas is one of five remaining undefeated teams in the nation, joining No. 2 Washington, No. 4 Penn State, No. 6 Hawaii and No. 16 Ohio State.

The No. 18 ranking is the team's highest since the 2000 season, when that UT team reached a high of No. 18 in the preseason edition of the poll. The squad was also ranked No. 18 in the final poll of the 1999 season.

UT returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29, when the team travels to Gainesville, Fla., to face No. 5 Florida (10-1, 2-0 SEC) at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in a 6 p.m. Central match.
