A conversation with Julie Olschwanger

Sept. 24, 2010

Do you have any pre-game superstitions? I used to not wash my knee pads if we won, but then, I realized that was really gross and stopped doing that. Now, I just make sure my hair is back and out of my face, little things like that.

If you could play another sport, what would it be? It would probably be gymnastics because that’s my favorite sport to watch during the Olympics.

Who is the person you admire most? My grandpa because he’s one of the people I respect most, and he brings our family so close. He’s just a great guy.

Who is the most played artist on your iPod? Rascal Flatts.

Do you have any hobbies? I love baking. I love going antique and vintage shopping, too.

What is one skill you wish you had? I really, really wish I could sing, especially since I’m taking piano and they told us we have to sing, and also when I have to sing “The Eyes of Texas” at the end of each game.

What is your ideal vacation spot? Hawaii or somewhere out of the country. My roommate’s Hawaiian, so I’m hoping she’ll take me somewhere during our breaks.

What is your favorite thing about playing volleyball for UT? Definitely my teammates and coaches. The whole environment is such a family atmosphere and everyone is so close, it makes it fun.

What is your favorite television show? My all-time favorite is Friends, and I also really love So You Think You Can Dance?

Can you dance? Not even a little bit. It’s worse than my singing.

What is your favorite thing to do in Austin? As of right now, it’s eating. I want to be a nutritionist, so I try to stay healthy, I love sushi. Every restaurant in Austin has such personality, I love it.

Who is your funniest teammate? I’d say Haley Cameron. She’s really funny.

What is your favorite spot on campus? Right now, it’s at Gregory because it holds all my favorite memories so far.
