Hooker earns Big 12 Player of the Week honors
Sept. 21, 2009 AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas senior All-America outside hitter Destinee Hooker was named Big 12 Player of the Week after leading the Longhorns to victories over No. 10 Iowa State and No. 24 Baylor last week. The award is Hooker's second of the season and the ninth of her career. The San Antonio, Texas, native connected for 33 kills and averaged 5.50 kills, 6.33 points and 2.83 digs per-set, while hitting at a .413 clip in the first week of Big 12 play. The senior helped the Longhorns improve to 7-0 on the year with all seven wins coming against ranked opponents. Against ISU she moved into fifth place all-time at Texas with 1,412 kills. In Texas' victory over No. 24 Baylor, Hooker posted a match-best 15 kills on .429 hitting, while adding two service aces, seven digs and one solo block. Against No. 10 Iowa State, Hooker recorded a match-high 18 kills and 10 digs for a kill/dig double-double. She hit .400 in the sweep and added a service ace and a pair of blocks. Hooker and her Texas teammates return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23 when they travel to Colorado. First serve is set for 8 p.m. Central.
