Match 10: No. 8/11 TEXAS (6-3, 0-0 Big 12) at TCU
Freshman outside hitter Khat Bell shined for Texas in its three victories at the 2011 Texas Invitational (Sept. 16-17) ... she headlined the Horns' attack with a .359 hitting percentage and added 4.30 points, 3.40 kills and 2.20 digs per-set ... she also led UT with a team-best six service aces .... Bell's stellar performance landed her Texas Invitational Most Valuable Player accolades and Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors on Sept. 19.
Through Texas' first nine matches senior middle blocker Rachael Adams is leading the way for the Longhorns ... the All-American ranks fifth in the Big 12 with her .363 hitting percentage and first in the NCAA with 1.65 blocks per-set ... she averaged 1.80 blocks per-set at the Nike Big Four Classic (Sept. 9-10) and went on to win Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Freshman outside hitter Haley Eckerman anchored the Horns attack at the Nike Big Four Classic (Sept. 9-10), leading Texas in kills both nights en route to claiming all-tournament team honors ... against UF Eckerman connected for a team-best 18 kills and added 13 kills versus PSU.
The Longhorns won all three of their matches at the Texas Invitational and landed four players on the all-tournament team ... freshman Khat Bell garnered tourney MVP honors, while senior Sydney Yogi earned Best Libero lauds ...sophomore Hannah Allison and Haley Eckerman also earned all-tourney honors.
Since head coach Jerritt Elliott arrived in Austin, the Longhorns have emerged as the dominant volleyball program in the state of Texas ... the Longhorns have posted a 81-8 (.910) record against in-state opponents during the Elliott era, including an 20-0 mark against Texas Tech and a 19-1 mark against Baylor ... before Texas' loss to Texas A&M on Sept. 16, 2010, UT had won 47-straight matches versus in-state foes with the streak dating back to Oct. 16, 2004.
