Matches 7-9: No. 8/11 TEXAS (3-3, 0-0 Big 12) at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational SERIES INFO LONGHORN NOTABLES Through Texas' first six matches senior middle blocker Rachael Adams is leading the way for the Longhorns ... the All-American ranks second in the Big 12 with her .411 hitting percentage and first in the league with 1.75 blocks per-set ... she averaged 1.80 blocks per-set at the Nike Big Four Classic (Sept. 9-10) and went on to win Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors. At last weekend's elite Nike Big Four Classic, Texas posted a 1-1 record, falling to No. 7 Florida in five sets in its opening match before rebounding to beat No. 2 Penn State, 3-2 in its second contest ... the Horns' victory over Penn State marked its first win over the Nittany Lions since Sept. 16, 1989 and snapped a 10-match losing streak against PSU. Freshman outside hitter Haley Eckerman anchored the Horns attack at the Nike Big Four Classic, leading Texas in kills both nights en route to claiming all-tournament team honors ... against UF Eckerman connected for a team-best 18 kills and added 13 kills versus PSU. Senior middle blocker Rachael Adams was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 12 after leading the Horns' defense in their two matches at the Nike Big Four Volleyball Classic ... she averaged 1.80 blocks per-set in UT's matches with No. 7 Florida and No. 2 Penn State ... in UT's five-set loss to UF, Adams registered a career-best 10 block assists and equaled a career-high with 10 total blocks ... Adams shined again in the Horns' 3-2 win over PSU with a team-best eight total blocks. Since head coach Jerritt Elliott arrived in Austin, the Longhorns have emerged as the dominant volleyball program in the state of Texas ... the Longhorns have posted a 79-8 (.908) record against in-state opponents during the Elliott era, including an 20-0 mark against Texas Tech and a 19-1 mark against Baylor ... before Texas' loss to Texas A&M on Sept. 16, 2010, UT had won 47-straight matches versus in-state foes with the streak dating back to Oct. 16, 2004. Texas is currently riding a 17-match home winning streak at Gregory Gymnasium ... the Horns' winning streak dates back to Sept. 4, 2010.
