A conversation with Hannah Allison

If you could play any other sport, what would it be? I’d play basketball because I grew up playing it, and my mom and my sisters grew up playing it with me. It was my favorite sport for a long time before I chose volleyball.

What’s your favorite thing about playing volleyball at UT? The players and the coaching staff around me. Getting to practice and play with some of the best players in the country is incredible.

What’s your favorite post-practice meal? Definitely Italian food. Our team eats a lot. We’re hungry all the time. They feed us really well.

What’s your favorite spot on campus? Cypress Café. We always hang out at Cypress. What is the most played song on your iPod? “The Revelation Song” by Chris Tomlin.

What do you listen to before a game? Whatever is in the locker room. The girls really know how to pump us up. Sha’Dare (McNeal) is the queen of warm up CDs.

What is your ideal travel destination? Italy. I’m studying Italian right now, so that’s why (I’d want to go there).

Why did you choose to study Italian? I took a lot of Spanish in high school, and since they are both romance languages, I knew I would be familiar with it, but would be trying something new at the same time.

What is one skill you wish you had? I wish I could sing. Jennifer (Doris) and I are karaoke duet partners, but everyone knows we’re the worst on the team, but at heart, we’re the best. I’d really like to sing like Juliann(Faucette).

If you could be on any reality television show, what would it be? Wipe Out. I just think that the most competitive person would win.

What would your perfect day be like? Going to church, dinner and ice cream afterwards.

What is your most embarrassing moment? State finals my senior year. At the championship game, I was diving for a ball that had been shanked. There was no one around me and everyone was watching, and I tripped and I bit it hardcore. I fell as about as hard and flat as you could. The whole crowd went, “Ooooh,” and it got us in a rut that caused us to lose the next three points. It was too serious of a time to laugh it off, so it was really embarrassing.

What is your favorite movie? Madea’s Family Reunion.

What would your dream job be? I would like to work with Special Olympics. It’s a positive atmosphere that connects sports and life, and shows how important sports can be in a person’s life.
