HOOKER EARNS BIG 12 POW HONORS
Texas senior All-America outside hitter Destinee Hooker was named Big 12 Player of the Week after leading the Longhorns to victories over No. 15 San Diego and then-No. 23 Long Beach State last week ... the San Antonio, Texas, native hammered out 43 kills, 5.38 kills per-set, 6.38 point per-set and hit at a .347 clip at the Long Beach State Baden Classic last weekend ... Hooker added 1.75 digs and 1.00 blocks per-set in the two victories over Top 25 opponents ... he notched a kill/dig double-double against LBSU and has now posted 20 or more kills in three straight matches, dating back to last season's NCAA Semifinals.

Despite falling behind two games to none, Texas rallied behind 23 kills from senior All-America outside hitter Destinee Hooker to upend No. 23 Long Beach State, 3-2 in its season opener (22-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-9) ... junior outside hitter Juliann Faucette posted 21 kills and 12 digs on the night to record a kill/dig double-double ... senior setter/opposite hitter Ashley Engle came up one kill shy of a triple-double with her 41 assists, 16 digs and nine kills ... senior libero Heather Kisner's 29 digs against LBSU set a new career high.
vs. San Diego:
Hooker pounded out 20 kills to lead Texas to a 3-0 victory over No. 15 San Diego (25-20, 25-16, 25-19) ... Hooker posted her third straight 20-plus kill match against San Diego ... the streak dates back to Dec. 18, 2008 vs. Stanford ... Texas out-hit San Diego .386-to-.220 on the night and out-blocked the Toreros 12.5-to-2.0 ... freshman utility Sha'Dare McNeal concluded the match with seven kills on 11 swings, while committing no errors and hitting .636.
