Aug. 24, 2009 Head coach Jerritt Elliott’s 2009 UT Volleyball team is deep at every position, including middle blocker where it boasts a trio of talented middles that have the ability to dominate at the net. The Longhorns have three middle blockers – two veterans and one freshman – providing Texas with a versatile group of players in the front row. Review what the Horns’ middles did in 2008 and see what Elliott is saying about the trio. RETURNERS
FRESHMAN Sha’Dare McNeal Prep Highlights • ranked No. 5 recruit nationally by PrepVolleyball.com (2009) • member of the 2008 U.S. Women’s Junior National Team • 2008 Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 recruit • 2008 Under Armour High School All-American and honorable mention Mizuno/Volleyball All-American Elliott on McNeal: “Sha’Dare is our most polished freshman coming into the season. She comes from a very solid club program and she has played a lot with USA Volleyball. Sha’Dare has played outside, middle and right side with her club team and she has very good volleyball IQ. She has improved leaps and bounds over the last year with her strength and maturity. Although she is a little undersized for a middle blocker she makes up for it with her great speed. Her ability to play in the middle as well as on both sides will be an asset for our team this year and in seasons to come.”
