Fans have two free chances to see Volleyball this week
AUSTIN, Texas -- With a week before the official season gets underway, the Texas volleyball team is inviting their fans to the "Horns House" for a pair of free matches. Fans of the Texas volleyball team will have two opportunities to catch an early glimpse of the team this weekend as the Horns will host a pair of free exhibitions at Gregory Gym, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 26-27. On Friday, Aug. 26, the 11th-ranked Longhorns will face UT-San Antonio at 6 p.m. Admission is free as the two teams will get their first taste of preseason action. On Saturday, Aug. 27, the Horns will play their annual intrasquad Orange and White Scrimmage at 5 p.m. Before the team takes the court, however, the team’s youngest fans (sixth grade and younger) can participate in a kid’s clinic that will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Gregory. After an hour of drills with the Longhorns, fans will be taken on a tour of the team’s locker room while the players warm up on the court. At 5 p.m., the orange squad will take on the white squad and after approximately an hour of play, the team will hold a meet and greet on the court for fans. Both events are free to the public and information about season tickets will be available. UT opens its 2005 schedule the first weekend of September when the team travels to Notre Dame for the Irish Invitational. Texas will take on Arizona State in the season opener on Friday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m., before facing Notre Dame on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 5 p.m. The match against the Irish will be aired by CSTV on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 5 p.m.
