Aug. 17, 2009
AUSTIN, Texas - Former Longhorn All-American Carrie Busch Dodd and partner Dianne Shoemaker-DeNecochea posted a seventh-place finish at the 2009 AVP San Francisco Open over the weekend. The tandem finished seventh for the second consecutive tournament after capturing a fifth-place finish or better in the first nine events of the 2009 season. In San Francisco, Dodd and Shoemaker-DeNecochea entered the tourney as the No. 4 overall seed. The pair took down Keao Burdine and Nancy Mason, 13-21, 21-13, 15-9 in their first winner's bracket match before falling to Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Davis, 18-21, 22-20, 10-15 in the second round. A 2-0 win over Barbra Fontana and Jenny Kropp kept the duo alive in the contender's bracket, but a 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 14-16) loss to Lauren Fendrick and Ashley Ivy eliminated Dodd and Shoemaker-DeNecochea. The tandem now owns a 39-20 match record and a 90-51 sets record to-date this season. The next AVP event is the Crocs Tour Muskegon Open on Aug. 20-23 in Muskegon, Mich.
