Volleyball greets fans at Football Fan Appreciation Day
Aug. 16, 2008
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Football Fan Appreciation Day took on a new format this year and with that new format came an opportunity for Longhorns' fans to catch their first glimpse of the 2008 Texas Volleyball team. Texas fans of all sorts swarmed to Gregory Gymnasium Saturday morning to meet their favorite UT Football stars, but received an extra treat when they were greeted and entertained by the volleyball team. "We are very thankful for Mack Brown and the football program including us in their fan appreciation day," head coach Jerritt Elliott said. "This is a great opportunity for us to get fans to see us for the first time and see how fast our game moves. Mack has truly been an asset to our program in many ways that people don't get to see." The preseason Big 12 favorite Longhorns began the morning by greeting fans as they entered Gregory and continued to mingle with fans as they filled their seats in the mezzanine level of the gym. The Horns signed autographs, handed out volleyball schedules, took photos and introduced some new fans to Texas Volleyball before gearing up for their morning workout. "It means a lot to be able to expose football fans to our program, especially since we have a lot of matches that are right before or right after football games," senior Kiley Hall stated. "Now when people come into Austin for football games they can come to our matches as well and perhaps begin to love volleyball as much as the dedicated fans we already have." After a brief break for lunch Elliott's squad took to the practice floor to showcase Texas' high-energy brand of volleyball. The Longhorns powerful attack is only two weeks away from being on full display at the Runza/AVCA Volleyball Showcase in Omaha, Neb. on Aug. 29, but Texas fans can see the Horns in action at Gregory Gym for the first time on Sept. 11 at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational.
