Volleyball ranks third in Molten/Volleyball Magazine poll

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas Volleyball team is ranked third in the 2008 Molten/Volleyball Magazine Preseason Top 20 poll, a spot they share with 2007 NCAA Regional finals opponent USC. Defending national champion Penn State sits atop the poll, while Stanford ranks second and Nebraska rounds out the top five. Big 12 Conference foe Kansas State ranks 14th and 2008 non-conference opponent, BYU weighs in at No. 18. In 2007, the Longhorns posted their best record under head coach Jerritt Elliott, recording a 27-4 mark, earning a share of the Big 12 title for the first time in a decade and making their second straight NCAA Regional finals appearance. Elliott welcomes back 10 letterwinners, five starters and four All-Americans in 2008, while adding the second-ranked recruiting class for the third consecutive season. Texas opens the season, against USC in clash of third-ranked teams on Aug. 29 at the runza/AVCA Showcase in Omaha, Neb. The match will be broadcast live at 9:30 p.m. Central on CBS College Sports.
