Volleyball to make three CSTV appearances
NEW YORK -- The Texas volleyball team, which begins the 2005 season ranked 11th nationally, will make three appearances on College Sports Televsion's "NCAA Volleyball on CSTV: AVCA Match of the Week" this season, the network announced Wednesday. With three appearances scheduled, the Longhorns can claim the second-highest total on CSTV's 2005 grid, trailing only Big 12 rival and preseason number one Nebraska's seven. Texas has two tape-delayed broadcasts and one live telecast on the network's schedule. The Longhorns will make their first appearance on the AVCA Match of the Week on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. Central, when CSTV airs Texas' early-season match at Notre Dame. That contest will be played on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Irish's Joyce Center in Notre Dame, Ind., at 5 p.m. The team's second appearance will come on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. Central, when the network will broadcast the Horns' trip to Lincoln, Neb., to face No. 1 Nebraska. That match will be played at the Cornhuskers' NU Coliseum on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. Central Texas' final appearance will be on Thursday, Oct. 26, when the Horns host rival Texas A&M -- ranked No. 16 in the preseason poll -- in an 8 p.m. Central match that will be aired live from Gregory Gym. Last season, the two teams played a thrilling, five-game match in Austin before a live national audience on CSTV, which was one of the network's top-rated volleyball matches of the season. CSTV has committed to airing 32 collegiate volleyball matches in 2005, a schedule which includes 15 of the 25 schools ranked in the AVCA's Preseason Coaches Poll. Texas' three matches on CSTV account for only some of the Horns' televised games in 2005. The up-to-date broadcast schedule can be found at TexasSports.com. The 11th-ranked Longhorns officially open their 2005 campaign on Friday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. Central at Notre Dame's Joyce Center, before taking on the Irish on Saturday, Sept. 3. UT makes its home debut in Gregory Gym on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in a 6:30 p.m. Central match against Colorado.
