Volleyball set to have 15 home matches broadcast on Longhorn Network
Aug. 9, 2012
AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Volleyball program will have 15 home matches broadcast for the 2012 season on Longhorn Network, making a total of 19 matches that will be televised. The first broadcast will be the Longhorns' season opener on Friday (August 24) against LSU in a 6 p.m. match as part of the 26 West Longhorns Classic at Gregory Gym.
"We are eager to start the season with a great group of returning veterans and a talented class of freshmen," said Texas Volleyball Head Coach Jerritt Elliott. "This team will need time to develop, but has a great upside if they learn to play well together."
The Longhorns return 2011 Big 12 Player of the Year and 2012 Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Bailey Webster and 2011 Big 12 Freshman of the Year Haley Eckerman, along with 2012 Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year Molly McCage, after the Longhorns finished with a No. 4 national ranking last season. UT compiled a 25-5 overall record in 2011 and won the Big 12 title with a 15-1 mark.
Texas is playing a formidable schedule this season with 11 matches against opponents that played in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
Along with the 15 home matches on Longhorn Network, Texas will have three road matches televised on ESPNU (Sept. 25 at Baylor, Oct. 28 at Oklahoma and Oct. 31 at TCU) with the Oct. 17 home match against Iowa State broadcast on FOX Sports Net.
