Volleyball's Adams, Bell and Roberson nab preseason Big 12 honors
Aug. 9, 2011
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas senior middle blocker Rachael Adams and freshman middle blocker Khat Bell have been named the Big 12 Conference’s Preseason Player and Freshman of the Year, the league office announced Tuesday. Adams garnered Texas’ fourth-consecutive preseason player of the year honor after Juliann Faucette earned preseason accolades in 2008 and 2010 and Destinee Hooker claimed the honor in 2009. Bell earned the Horns’ fifth preseason freshman accolade in the last six years (2006-Engle, 2007-Faucette, 2008-Adams, 2009-Webster). Adams and senior outside hitter Amber Roberson were also named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team, with Adams picking up her second career preseason honor. In 2010, Adams was an All-Big 12 First Team performer, while Roberson was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection. As a junior, Adams led the NCAA with her .443 hitting percentage en route to claiming AVCA All-America First Team lauds and Roberson posted a breakout season, averaging a career-best 2.84 kills and 1.78 digs per-set. Hannah Willms (Iowa State) is the Preseason Newcomer of the Year after redshirting in 2010. The 2011 Big 12 Volleyball Preseason Poll will be announced on Wednesday, Aug. 10.
