AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior setter Michelle Moriarty and junior middle blocker Lauren Paolini helped lead the USA Volleyball A2 Red Team to a second place finish at the 2007 USA Volleyball Adult Open championships at the Austin Convention Center on Memorial Day weekend. Moriarty and Paolini guided the red team to a 9-2 record, including a perfect 5-0 record in pool play, posting 3-0 sweeps in all five matches. After reeling off seven straight wins, including a victory over senior libero Alyson Jennings' A2 Blue Team, Moriarty and Paolini's squad stumbled against the Westwood Volleyball Club, falling 3-1. The team bounced back posting two straight victories, including a win over Westwood, a club team comprised of current UCLA volleyball players. The final match was a one-game match and the A2 Red Team fell to Westwood, 25-19. Paolini garnered All-Tournament Second Team honors, along with A2 Red teammate Kylie Atherstone of Cal Poly.
