Euro Blog Day 7: Rachael Adams
May 29, 2009
So today (5/26) was by far the roughest and hardest day we have had yet. Yeah right! It was the best day so far! After a whole night of traveling, my roommates (Juliann Faucette and Lauren Paolini) and I woke up at 8:00 a.m. to get ready for breakfast, but before that we had to check out the scenery from our balcony. We missed it the night before because we checked into the hotel after dark. Our balcony overlooked the sparkling blue Adriatic Sea and we were all blown away. When we arrived for breakfast our table was on the patio with a beautiful seaside view. The morning breeze was perfect and everything just felt so amazing! For breakfast we had eggs with ham and cheese and bread with jam and butter. Everything went so well together. After breakfast we sat around the table and chatted until 9:30 a.m. We then piled into the vans and continued on with our rough day. We arrived at Kastela Marina which was filled with many beautiful boats. We had two amazing 50-foot sailboats with amazing, fully-equipped cabins at our disposal. The coaches and staff boarded one of the boats and the players on the other. Everyone was so excited and we took a ton of pictures. Once our boat started to move, we found some great spots to sit, relax and take in all of the scenery. It was one of the most peaceful things I have ever experienced. The water was crystal clear and sparkling. After about 20 minutes we arrived at this exclusive spot about 200 yards off one of the islands. J (Juliann) and Kiley (Hall) were the first to jump off of the front of the boat. When they came up from under the water, they both said it "It's so salty!" So I had to try it for myself. I jumped off the front of the boat and got a taste of the water. I have never swam in water that salty before. Besides the water being salty, everything else was perfect. Everyone did their own thing for the next few hours, swimming and lounging on the boat. Princess Pao (Lauren Paolini) was being pulled on the raft and Ella Hosfeld and Parker Elliott were swimming and looking for rocks on the shore. Others were relaxing and soaking up the sun on the front of the boat while some were skipping rocks and throwing rocks (Kiley). Everyone was enjoying themselves.
Lunch was delivered to us by a speedboat. We had huge sandwiches and freshly picked cherries. The cherries were quickly demolished because they were so good. We spent the next few hours relaxing and swimming again. We then boarded the boat and took a 45-minute ride down the beautiful coastline before returning to the marina. I can't even describe how relaxing and how much that boat ride was needed. After returning to the hotel and getting ready for dinner, we headed back to the marina. We were greeted with a great dinner which included some fresh fish. We also ate with some of the players and coaches from the local volleyball club and brushed up on our Croatian. The entire day was great! I can't believe it is over. I don't know how we will top today. Stay tuned for more info on our great trip. Hook `Em Rachael |
