Longhorns selected to train with USA Volleyball this summer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Four Texas volleyball players have been invited to train with various USA Volleyball national squads this summer. Sophomore setter Jenny Andrew (Kingwood, Texas) and Brandy Magee (Mission Viejo, Calif.) were both invited to train with the Women's National A2 Team, while freshman setter Michelle Moriarty (Houston, Texas) and incoming freshman middle blocker Lauren Paolini (Ann Arbor, Mich.) were both selected to train with the Junior National A2 Team.

Andrew is currently out in Colorado Springs training with the National A2 Team, which will begin summer Open Championship play shortly. Magee declined her invitation to train this summer. National A2 Team members include top college-aged athletes in the country.

Moriarty and Paolini will head out to Colorado Springs in July to train with the Junior National A2 Team. Moriarty was a member of the 2002 U.S. Youth National Team that won the NORCECA World Qualifier and finished fourth at the World Youth Championships. Junior National A2 Team members are generally college freshmen or incoming college freshmen.

"This is a great experience for Jenny, Michelle and Lauren," Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott said. "Training with the A2 Teams will allow them to play some of the top players and offer them the chance to grow as players in a different setting.

"It's important that our players are involved in the national team programs - both for the players and for the team as a whole. When players are selected to train with USA Volleyball, they get the best training and best coaching, and then they are able to bring that back to Gregory Gym and challenge their own Texas teammates to be better," Elliott continued.
