Volleyball wraps up spring with orange-white match

April 27, 2009

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Volleyball team wrapped up its spring season with the orange-white match on Saturday, April 25 at the UT Rec Sports Center.

Sophomore outside hitter Juliann Faucette and senior middle blocker Lauren Paolini headlined the UT offense in the match, registering 15 and 18 kills, respectively. Faucette hit at a .290 clip for the match, while Paolini posted a .280 attack mark. Sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Doris posted the highest hitting percentage of the match, recording 12 kills on .500 hitting.

"I felt like we had some really good overall performances this weekend," head coach Jerritt Elliott said. "I thought Juliann passed extremely well in addition to doing some nice things on the offensive side. Jen Doris continues to get better and Rachael Adams had a strong performance as well. I think we saw a lot of growth from Bailey Webster and Amber Roberson this spring and they will continue to get better as we go forward."

Freshman middle blocker Rachael Adams added 13 kills and a match-best six blocks and senior outside hitter/defensive specialist Kiley Hall tallied 13 kills of her own.

The white team was comprised of setter/opposite hitter Ashley Engle, Paolini, middle blocker Elizabeth Graham, Hall, outside hitter Amber Roberson and defensive specialist Sydney Yogi .

The orange squad of setter Michelle Kocher, Doris, Adams, Faucette, outside hitter Bailey Webster, libero Heather Kisner and defensive specialist Alexandra Lewis.

"This spring was really nice because we had so many available players and we were able to split up into two teams for most of the spring," Elliott said. "Everyone was able to play in every match and it was a great learning experience for everyone. I felt like we had some big growth in individual players. This is going to be a very competitive team this fall."

Texas returns to the court in late May when it embarks on its European tour.
