Volleyball set to play four matches this weekend

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas volleyball team returns to action this weekend when it travels to the Texas Tornados College Spring Invitational. The Longhorns will play four matches on Friday and Saturday, April 14-15 at the Tornados Training Facility in Houston. UT is currently 3-0 in its spring exhibition season.

On Friday, UT and New Mexico State will play the feature best-of-five-game match at 6:30 p.m. Admission is set at $3 for adults and $2 for students. The Aggies were 19-5 overall and 11-4 in the Western Athletic Conference in 2005.

On Saturday, the Longhorns will play three matches, including two against traditional powerhouse Florida. Those matches will be three games played to 30 points.

The Horns and Gators face off for the first time at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, before Texas takes on a team of Texas Tornado All-Stars, which includes four-time U.S. Olympian and two-time collegiate player of the year Tara Cross-Battle, at 11 a.m. UT and Florida will face off for the second time at 1 p.m.

Texas, which opened the spring exhibition season with three victories at the Texas Invitational on March 25, will play one final spring tournament next weekend on April 22 when the team travels to Chicago for a multi-team event.

The Texas Tornados Training Facility is located at 8835 Wheat Cross Drive in Houston.
