The Championship is part of the fourth annual Collegiate Nationals, a first-of-its kind event that crowns national champions in 11 events.
The Longhorns' tandem of Ashley Engle and Kiley Hall claimed the A-flight championship at the 2008 championship, knocking off USC in the final. "The Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship has been at the forefront of the movement to add Sand Volleyball as an NCAA sport," said Kathy DeBoer, Executive Director, AVCA. "We anticipate the NCAA adding it to the Emerging Sports list for women next month, which would pave the way for colleges and universities to sponsor it as a varsity sport beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year."
Extensive television coverage of the Alt Games and beach volleyball championship kicks-off with a special one-hour program airing on CBS Sports on Saturday, May 16 at 1 p.m. Central.
The Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship will adhere strictly to NCAA guidelines for college volleyball.
