Volleyball split-squad shares title at GLC College Tourney
March 29, 2009 CHICAGO -- The University of Texas volleyball team split into two squads and both squads played their way to the finals of the 2009 Great Lakes Center College Tournament, Sunday afternoon. The Longhorns' orange and white squads both advanced to the final, but the team's elected to not play the match until they return to Austin. The orange squad comprised of setter Michelle Kocher, middle blocker Jennifer Doris, middle blocker Rachael Adams, outside hitter Juliann Faucette, outside hitter Bailey Webster, libero Heather Kisner and defensive specialist Alexandra Lewis advanced through bracket A. The orange began the day with a 2-0 (25-17, 25-19) victory over Indiana State and added a 2-0 (25-22, 25-15) win over Iowa and a 2-0 (25-6, 25-22) victory over Louisville. Texas' white team of setter/opposite hitter Ashley Engle, middle blocker Lauren Paolini, middle blocker Elizabeth Graham, defensive specialist/outside hitter Kiley Hall, outside hitter Amber Roberson and defensive specialist Sydney Yogi advanced through pool play in the C pool. The white squad defeated Purdue, 3-0 in its first match before besting Duke, 2-1.
The Longhorns' two teams advanced to the gold pool along with St. Louis. The white team beat the Billikens, 2-0 (25-20, 25-21), while the orange team edged SLU, 2-0 (25-22, 25-18). Texas returns to action on Saturday, April 4 at the fourth annual Texas Tornados College Tournament in Houston, Texas. |
