Texas Ex Juliann Faucette earns most valuable player honors in Italian Serie A1 All-Star match

Jan. 29, 2013

Former Texas Volleyball All-American outside hitter Juliann Faucette was named most valuable player of the Italian Serie A1 All-Star match on Sunday. She scored a team-high six points in leading the World All-Stars to the win in three sets.

"It was one of the greatest honors ever," Faucette said. "To be named MVP out of all the top athletes from each team in the Italian League is something you only dream of. On top of that, the prize for winning the award was a trip to Egypt. It's just an amazing feeling; I've never won something like that before."

But Faucette saved her best performance after the match. A noted singer, she sang Alicia Keys' hit "Girl On Fire" in front of the crowd of 3,000 fans.

"It's been a while since I really performed like that and it's one of the most gratifying things in the world to get a crowd to respond the way they did when I sang that song," Faucette said. "I truly felt like a girl on fire, someone who was invincible and could make all her dreams come true. I'm still in complete shock and feel undeserving of the MVP award, especially when I'm playing with girls that I used to Google when I was younger. Overall, it was one of my favorite experiences as a player and I'm so happy to be able to share it with my alma mater."
